On my arrival this year I found everything in disorder: A very dirty run container and plastic wares in front disappointed me deeply. These cheap goods compete against their high-quality and traditional craftsmanship!

After an immediate meeting with all the women, we were not only able to agree on regulated opening times, an accounting and an adequate presentation of the pottery items, but also decided to further increase profitability by learning the manufacture of colored glass beads and their additional sale.

From now on, colored advertising signboards, placed at the entrance of Kpando, show the visitors the way to the shed. In a collective clean-out of the container, we could not only promote team spirit, but also achieve a presentable exhibition. I took the time to take photos and measurements of all items to prepare them for the newly created website (www.aloryipotters.com). In the long run, this shall allow a further expansion of the domestic and foreign market.

In addition to that, the women have the opportunity to present their pottery items in the recently, by the Ghanaian government opened "Art Center" for local handcrafts.

The thrice-weekly training of ladies in English, accounting and marketing technique ensures the continuation and expansion of the pottery community. With pride, the women wear a uniform with the inscription "Aloyi Shed", demonstrating in addition a visual unity.

Also in this year it was important for me to visit and to support the orphanage "HardtHaven". The entire new building impressed me. My financial donation was immediately used by the director Edem Adjordor to buy urgently needed medicaments and food for the 25 children living there.

For Edem Adjordor it is natural to support the families of the children who are living in his orphanage. This year he introduced me to a young woman who earns about 20 Euros a month by chopping stones. She and her sixteen year old daughter, as well as her two small children (all three infected with HIV) need urgently financial support.

On my way through Ghana, I always come back to this very special place. "Aylos Bay" is not just a garden restaurant with outstanding Ghanaian and European dishes, but also offers comfortable accommodation in bungalow with direct access and stay on Lake Volta.
